REVIEW: Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation

I have been trying out the Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation (yes, that's an affiliate link. Don't be scared. It just means I get commission if you buy something after clicking that link :) ). the past few weeks. This medium-to-full coverage foundation says it has the "lasting power of a primer, coverage of a concealer, and blendability of a foundation" and it's "Shine free." But is it really? Well, I've worn it a few times and now I feel comfortable giving a review. Along with a written review, there is also a video review of this foundation below. (Yay for trying something new!) So, does this foundation live up to what it claims? Let's break it down...

1) Lasting power of a primer Yes! This product will stay all day long. I noticed it will rub off if you're blowing your nose a lot (but what foundation can live through that?). BUT! This does not do all of the things that primers can do. I have a problem with pores showing up on drier areas of my cheeks/undereyes, and I have to moisturize and prime there to keep this foundation from sinking into them.

2) Coverage of a concealer Sort of... This definitely covered any redness I had on my face, and minimized the look of my freckles. However, when I tried to cover my under-eye circles they were more visible than when I use only my Maybelline Fit Me concealer. I didn't have a breakout while using this foundation, but I think if you do a second, light coat over the zit it will be covered up.

3) Blendability of a foundation If you moisturize your face (or at least dry spots) first, don't use your hands, and use thin layers, then yes. The first time I used this I tried a lot of product to see if I could blend it out with my hands... Nope! However, if you use thin layers and use a brush or damp sponge instead of your hands, you'll be golden.

I recommend starting with one pump then use a half or another full pump to cover any missed spots or excessive redness. I also use a damp, triangle makeup sponge, but I think a synthetic, duo-fiber foundation brush (probably a stippling or buffing type) you can use to spread and pat the foundation with would make blending a million times easier.

4) Shine free Sure...? This does minimize shine, and it keeps my T-zone from turning into an oil slick. However instead of being a full-on matte finish, it's more of a satin finish. I don't have a problem with this, because it looks more skin-like than a matte finish foundation on me. I believe if you use a mattifying primer and powder with this you can definitely get a true matte finish that you very oily-skinned ladies are looking for.

Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation Shades 805 825
Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation Shades 805 825

My biggest issue with this product is it's not very true to color.I wouldn't say the color oxides, but when it dries it was darker and had a much warmer undertone. It was very noticeable for me, because I have always been Buff Beige (#825 in this foundation) in Covergirl face products - Clean Oil Control pressed powder and liquid foundation specifically. However, once this foundation dried it was a shade too dark for me. I ended up getting the lightest color they have, which is 805 Ivory and when that dried darker and the undertones warmed up, it match my skin perfectly.

Also, in one store I was shopping at, the four lightest shades in the collection look almost the same. However, another store I went to had daylight lights installed and I could tell that 805 was the lightest and the next three shades (810, 820 & 825) were the same depth of color with different undertones. So, I would suggest that if 810, 820 or 825 are too dark for you, jump all the way down to 805.

I want to meet the person at Covergirl who suggested the pump on this product and give them a high five, because I wish all foundations came with a pump. It's so much easier (and sanitary) to use and you're less likely to waste a bunch of the product. Plus this pump locks, so I think it makes it a little bit easier/less messy to travel with.

Something else I noticed about this product, is it's very lightweight for medium-to-full coverage. When it sets it feels like it has almost a powder finish and feel - similar to my Bare Minerals Matte Foundation - but it's still covers discolorations. It's almost like you have an airbrushed finish.
