Makeup Tutorial: Easy Everyday Makeup

Everday Makeup Edit 1

This look is perfect for those days that don't have time to do a lot with your makeup, but you want to look like you did. The smudged liner makes it really quick and easy, because there's no precision needed. Plus, the majority of the products I used are from the drugstore, and are multi-purpose. Video tutorial and list of products are below:

Makeup Tutorial: Smokey Winged Liner

This is such a wearable smokey eyeshadow look. It's definitely a lot more wearable for daytime or a date than an all over dark, smokey eye. All eyeshadows used are from Urban Decay's Naked 2 palette, and I'm wearing Ardell lashes.

Makeup Tutorial: Valentine's Date Makeup

Valentine's Date2I wanted to create a fun eyeshadow look that used a cranberry eyeshadow color, but was still very wearable for daytime. The cranberry color can be very loud, but because I only apply it in the crease and outer half of the lid it's not terribly overwhelming. I've worn this look on the weekend a few times, and every time I do my husband says he really like how my makeup looks that day. So I thought this would be a great look for a Valentine's Day date. Holiday Makeup - Perfect for Traveling!

dsc_00030-cropped2The past few years my husband I always traveled over the winter holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years) to our families or friends homes. Some times we would spend the night one of our parents' homes, and other times we would we be driving most of the day. So I decided I would share a step-by-step tutorial for holiday makeup look that's perfect for those traveling, and only use products that are compact and long-lasting.

Step 1: Toner and Moisturizer!

The best way to get your makeup to last all day and apply easier is to moisturize your skin. Plus it's always good to moisturize everyday, because will keep your skin from drying out this winter. I normally use a toner on a cotton ball all over my face, then apply a moisturizer and eye cream to my face, and Vaseline to my lips every morning. Be sure to give your moisturizer a few minutes to absorb into your skin before applying make-up (perfect time to get a cup of coffee and eat breakfast, finish packing, or do your hair!).

Step 2: Apply and Set Concealer & Foundation

dsc_00007I love using mineral foundations for everyday looks and while I'm traveling, because you don't have to worry about it rubbing off your face leaving your face looking patchy. Since I am using a mineral foundation for this look, I apply and set my Maybelline Fit Me concealer with Covergirl's Clean Pressed Powder on my under-eye circles and blemishes first. Then, I apply Bare Minerals Matte Foundation in Fairly Light all over my face on a kabuki brush. This foundation is perfect for travel with its click, lock and go lid.

Step 3: Apply Blush

dsc_00009Use a blue-toned pink cheek color to give your face that "I just came in from the cold" flush to your cheeks. Today I'm using Wet n Wild's blush in the color Heather Silk.

Step 4: Fill Those Brows

dsc_00013Your brows help frame your face, and for me are a must-do step. I recently found (and fell in love with) New York Color's (NYC) brow kit - it's super compact, long-lasting, and affordable.

Step 5: Apply Waterline Color

dsc_00014One of the worst parts of traveling is lack of sleep; either you're waking up early to go somewhere, or you're getting terrible sleep in a bed that's not your own. So to fake a good nights sleep, put a white or cream-colored eyeliner to your waterline.

Step 6: Apply Eyeshadow Base or Primer

dsc_00015To help my eye make-up last all day I'm going to apply a nude eyeshadow base called Just Beige by Maybelline all over my eye area.

Step 7: Apply Lid Color

dsc_00016For all the eyeshadows in this look I'm using Urban Decay the Naked Basic palette. The first shadow I apply is a light-colored, matte, peachy eyeshadow all over the eyelid called WOS.

Step 8: Apply Transition Color to Crease

dsc_00018Next I'm applying Naked 2 on a large, fluffy brush to my crease, which is a matte color that is close to my skin tone. This will help the darker crease color I apply next blend with the rest of the lighter shadows.

Step 9: Deepen the Crease Color

dsc_00019To darken the crease color and give it a little more va-va-voom, I'm adding a matte medium brown shade called Faint. Keep this color concentrated in and slightly above the crease, and take the few extra seconds to blend it seamlessly with your transition color.

Step 10: Apply Brow Highlight Color

dsc_00020I use the warm, light-colored, matte, eyeshadow called Foxy to highlight under my brow bone.

Step 11: Apply Inner-Corner Highlight Color

dsc_00021For the last eye shadow I use the satin, champagne color called Venus and place it in my inner-corner/tear-duct area. Doing this is makes your eyes appear wide-open, thus making you look more awake.

Step 12: Winged Eyeliner

dsc_00022Use your favorite black liquid or gel eyeliner, and make a slight cat-eye.

Step 13: Curl Lashes and Apply Mascara

dsc_00024Curl your lashes and apply 2 coats of a long-lasting black mascara. I love using the waterproof version of Maybelline's The Rocket Mascara in Very Black, because it's clump-free and will keep your lashes curled all day.

Step 14: Lip Color

dsc_00026To finish off this look, apply a cranberry colored stain or lipstick. I used Wet n Wild's balm stain in Lady and the Vamp. This balm stain is awesome, because it will give a wash of cranberry color to your lips and also last through two servings of dinner and dessert.

What's your favorite holiday look, bold lips or glittery eyeshadow?

Fall Makeup Tutorial - Full Lashes and Bold Lips

Bold LipsOne of my favorite fall beauty trends is the super easy yet sophisticated look with natural eyeshadow, long and voluminous lashes and a bold lip color. I particularly love plumy and cranberry lip colors for fall, and sometimes I'll mix the two colors together to get a more dimensional look. In this video tutorial you will see how I do it. The video tutorial and list of products are below!

My Go-To Makeup for Fall 2014 - EYES

All ProductsWelcome back to part 2 of my go-to fall 2014 makeup trilogy. If you haven't read part 1 about face products, click here. If you have read it or only care about the eye products continue on...

New York Color (NYC) Brow Kit in Brunette

_DSC1398I bought this little nugget a few months go, and I love it. Before I was using an eyeshadow in a Sephora palette and the colored eyebrow was from ELF, but I just wasn't happy with them. All I wanted was the eyeshadow in a more portable container like the ELF eyebrow wax. Beauty gurus online have said good things about this product. So, I thought a product that was under $5 was worth a shot, and I haven't looked back. This is great because it's not so pigmented that your eyebrows don't belong to your face, and it's easy to build up.

To apply this product I use my pinky to place a small amount of the clear wax on my arch and tail. Then I apple the brown powder using small strokes with a narrow angled brush. Finally, I use an eyebrow brush and quickly go over my brows to get the hairs to lay how I would like and to disperse any thick patches of product.

Maybelline Color Tattoo in Just Beige

_DSC1399I'm going to start of by saying I love all the Maybelline Color Tattoos I own (see the other three colors and an in-depth review here). However I have been leaning toward this particular color. It's a great matte shadow base and primer that is perfect for fair-skinned people. Sadly, I haven't seen it in stores for a few months so this was most likely limited edition. I love the color tattoos because they are affordable, but if you really need a matte, skin-toned shadow base you can try MAC Paint Pot in Soft Ochre. It's definitely a pricier alternative, but I have heard great things about this product, too.

To apply this product, I place my ring finger into the pot and rub it in a circular motion for a few seconds. Picking up the product this way helps warm up the product and make it easier to apply to your eyelid. Then I apply this from my lash line to my brow bone, and go over it a few times to make sure it's blended easily.

I learned a super helpful tip when storing this product so it won't dry out: Store it with the black lid on the bottom. This makes it so the moisture in the product is where you are putting your finger when you use the product, and not at the bottom of the pot. SO HELPFUL! I wish I would have stored these like this all along...

Maybelline The Rocket Volumn' Express Waterproof Mascara in Very Black

_DSC1395Best. Drugstore. Mascara! I absolutely love this product. It doesn't flake or smear all over your face, it keeps your lashes curled and voluminous, it's clump free, and it's from the drugstore! My favorite mascara of all time is Tarte's Lights, Camera, Lashes!, but this by far my favorite drug store one. It's color is so dark and your lashes won't look like a spider if you apply two coats. I have used the regular formulation of this product, but the waterproof one keeps my stick-straight lashes curled all day long.

I apply this mascara in a pretty basic way... First I curl my lashes. Then I put the brush covered with product at the base of my top lashes and wiggle the brush as I go toward the end of the lash, and go over all of my lashes. Also, I use the left over product to apply a light coat on my lower lashes. If I feel like I didn't get enough va-voom on the first coat, I apply a second to my top lashes.

Wet n Wild ColorIcon Eyeliner in White

_DSC1400This last product is my 8 hours of sleep in a pencil. When you put this on your waterline, it makes you look awake and ready to take on the day. As I have praised over and over, Wet n Wild products are super pigmented and super affordable. If you've never tried a white eyeliner pencil, you should give this a try because you can get it for a few dollars (I think I paid $1.50) and it will last FOREVER.

To apply this, I pull my lower water-line away from my eyeball, and run the pencil over it a couple of times until the skin is lighter. That's it. It's even easier than how I apply mascara and it will make you look like you got a great night's sleep (even though you didn't).

What products are you loving this fall?

Lots of love!
