Makeup for Busy Ladies

Easy Everyday Makeup for Busy Ladies || Hayley Fiser || Just because you're busy doesn't mean you have to give up doing your makeup! I'm sharing my go-to, 9-step makeup process that I can do in 15 minutes or less. It's just the right amount in the right places to make you look a little more bright-eyed and bushy-tailed (even if you don't feel like it).

  1. If you're like me, than you're almost always in a sleep-deprived state. To help hide that, I need my Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Concealer in the Brightener shade. This stuff is the bomb dot com (does anyone actually say that anymore...?). The salmon undertone cancels out the blueish color of my dark circles, and makes me look like I got to sleep another hour or two. I put a little bit under my eyes by my tear ducts and, using my ring finger, I blend it out to cover the majority of the dark pigments.
  2. Next, I use the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer. I place this under my eyes, cover up any redness around my nose, and any acne I have. This is a really good concealer for the price, and it lasts all day for me. As with the other concealer, I use my ring finger to blend this out (it's the finger with the softest touch ;) )
  3. I set the concealers and hide any excess oiliness I have by using Rimmel London's Stay Matte Pressed Powder in Translucent on a big fluffy brush.
  4. Then, I'll put on blush. This varies depending on my mood, skin tone, and the season. Typically, I'll use Wet 'n' Wild Color Icon Blush in Pearlescent Pink, Nars Blush in Orgasm, or Rodial Blush in South Beach. These are all great blush options if you're pretty fair like me.
  5. Once I finish with my face, I'll curl my lashes and put on mascara. Since I have very straight, stubborn lashes, I'll put on a coat of Maybelline's Volumn' Express The Rocket Waterproof Mascara in Very Black first. This has been my ride-or-die mascara for years. 10 out of 10, would recommend.
  6. After that dries, I'll put a coat of a washable mascara on next. Recently, I've been using L'Oreal Paris's Voluminous Mascara in Carbon Black. I like it. But... since it's a wetter mascara formula, I do find myself getting it on my eye lid almost every time I apply it. So, I'm not sure if I'll repurchase it.
  7. Next, it's time for brows. This can go one of two ways. If I want to take a couple minutes, I'll use an eyebrow pencil. My favorite one is the Micro Pencil by Nyx. If I'm in a rush, I'll use a tinted eyebrow gel like Benefit's Gimme Brow. Both are great options, but you get a more polished look with the pencil.
  8. If I feel like taking a few extra minutes, I'll use an kohl eye pencil to line my upper and lower water lines, and some matte eyeshadows on my eye lids. But in all honesty, if I'm really, truly busy and need to get out the door, I'm definitely skipping this step.
  9. After I'm done with makeup for my face and eyes, I'll put on some lip color. This is one of my favorite ways to dress up a normally minimalist look. Recently, I've been loving Wet 'n' Wild's Liquid Catsuit matte lipstick in Rebel Rose topped with a light-colored lipgloss.

My Favorite Things in 2016

Schwan's cookies with a glass of milk Happy New Year!!! We're a couple of weeks into the new year, and I wanted to share some of the things I really enjoyed in 2016.

Healthy Food

This year we really got into making smoothies. I started making one that tastes like my favorite from Tropical Smoothie, the Kiwi Quencher. I make it with strawberries, kiwis, a banana, plain yogurt, and almond milk. I'll be doing a blog post with our favorite smoothie recipes soon, and will link it here when it's done.

Junk Food

Since my husband began working for Schwan's, I started eating waaayyy more desserts. Above anything else, in my opinion, is definitely their frozen chocolate chip cookie dough. They are so delicious, and I can have a couple (or four or five) fresh-baked cookies and milk when I get home from work with very little effort on my part. Actually, I'm going to make some right now before I finish writing this post :)

This year we moved to the northern Lower Peninsula in Michigan where the winters are very cold. Since the move, I've had to acquire more and more clothes for this chilly weather. For Christmas my husband got me a super warm, fuzzy, and long robe. When I'm at home, I live in it. It's amazing! I love that it's basically like wearing a blanket. You can buy it on Amazon here

This year I didn't experiment too much with makeup. BUT! I did start using an eye kohl on my waterlines when I was trying to cut time out of my morning makeup routine before work. I really like using an eye kohl, because it draws attention to my eyes and makes my lashes look longer without all the steps I had when using eyeshadow and liquid liner. I've been using the NYX Cosmetics Noir Kohl Kajal Black Liner

There are 2 shows that I wanted to include here: The Man in the High Castle, and Black Mirror.

At the beginning of the year my husband found The Man in the High Castle, and we binge watched the first season. In a very small nutshell, the show is about what the United States might have been like if the Allies lost World War II. The second season just came out, and we're going to try to watch it in the next couple days.

In December he found Black Mirror on Netflix, and we watch all three seasons before the end of the year. It's almost like a collection of visual, short stories, because each episode is different. Most of them focus on something that is happening in our society, and what it could be like in the not-so-distant future. It really makes you think about the things you might write off as being small issues, because they don't affect you too much right this moment.

2016 was a huge year for us! We left Lansing and moved to Gaylord, and in the process sold one house and bought another. It was a huge undertaking, but it was totally worth it. We love it up here :)

Tutorial: Warm Smokey Eyeshadow

Warm eyeshadow looks are becoming a major trend, and this is an easy way to get a warm smokey eye look. I also used a fun duo-chrome eyeshadow from Wet n Wild's Comfort Zone palette that is a warm red-brown with a teal-blue sheen. This is also the look I'm wearing in my review of Covergirl's Outlast Coverstay 3-in-1 Foundation. The video and list and products are below.

REVIEW: Lorac Pro and Lorac Mega Pro Palettes

Lorac PalettesI'm so excited to have some new makeup palettes to play with. Over the past few weeks I have been using the Lorac Pro and Lorac Mega Pro palettes, and I have a few ideas for some new videos. Since it will be a few weeks before I can have the videos uploaded I thought I would share a written review of both palettes.

Lorac Pro

IMG_0839-0This is a palette I would recommend to everyone looking for a high quality neutral makeup palette, especially a compact one for traveling. There are 8 matte and 8 shimmer shades. I did notice that not all the shimmer shades are what I would consider shimmer, but some have a more satin finish (which I prefer over a true shimmer shadow most days). The colors are mainly in the neutrals family, and they give you 2 colors that work great as a matte transition shade. However there are still a few fun colors in this palette. I love the range of shades you get in this palette, and it's easy to do both day and night looks with only colors from this.

The formulation for these shadows is amazing, too. They are very smooth and not powdery, which makes them a dream to blend together. These colors are also super pigmented, and are very true to the color in the pan.

Lorac Mega Pro

Lorac Mega Pro palette - openThis bad boy is as majestic as a baby unicorn (and almost as rare). The quality is just as amazing as the Lorac Pro palette and there's so many types of colors - warm-toned, cool-toned, neutral, bright, matte and shimmer. This thing has them all! In all there are 16 matte shades, and 16 shimmer (like the Lorac Pro palette, some of the "shimmer" shades have more of a satin finish). The pigmentation is ridiculously awesome, and they blend very easily. Don't tell my husband, but now that I have this I don't think I need any more eyeshadow. I still want all the eyeshadows ever, but the variety and quality of these are so great that I really don't need more.

Sadly this palette was an ultra-limited edition, online only palette for the holidays (I said ultra-limited because it sold out in a matter of days). However, when I post a video using colors from this palette I will be sure to include at least one dupe for them.

Do you have a Lorac palette? Do you like or dislike about them?

Makeover Monday: Adriana Lima

I collaborated with Cut Out + Keep to be apart of their Makeover Monday series. For this series you choose a person whose style you love. Then, you recreate their famous look, and do a look you would do if you had the chance to give them a makeover.

I chose Adriana Lima and recreated her 2014 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show look. Then, I chose to give her a makeover that was based on the simple yet sexy look of the 1950s and 60s pin-up girl. Check out the post on Cut Out + Keep and get the step-by-step instructions for both looks here:

Fall Makeup Tutorial - Full Lashes and Bold Lips

Bold LipsOne of my favorite fall beauty trends is the super easy yet sophisticated look with natural eyeshadow, long and voluminous lashes and a bold lip color. I particularly love plumy and cranberry lip colors for fall, and sometimes I'll mix the two colors together to get a more dimensional look. In this video tutorial you will see how I do it. The video tutorial and list of products are below!

My Go-To Makeup for Fall 2014 - EYES

All ProductsWelcome back to part 2 of my go-to fall 2014 makeup trilogy. If you haven't read part 1 about face products, click here. If you have read it or only care about the eye products continue on...

New York Color (NYC) Brow Kit in Brunette

_DSC1398I bought this little nugget a few months go, and I love it. Before I was using an eyeshadow in a Sephora palette and the colored eyebrow was from ELF, but I just wasn't happy with them. All I wanted was the eyeshadow in a more portable container like the ELF eyebrow wax. Beauty gurus online have said good things about this product. So, I thought a product that was under $5 was worth a shot, and I haven't looked back. This is great because it's not so pigmented that your eyebrows don't belong to your face, and it's easy to build up.

To apply this product I use my pinky to place a small amount of the clear wax on my arch and tail. Then I apple the brown powder using small strokes with a narrow angled brush. Finally, I use an eyebrow brush and quickly go over my brows to get the hairs to lay how I would like and to disperse any thick patches of product.

Maybelline Color Tattoo in Just Beige

_DSC1399I'm going to start of by saying I love all the Maybelline Color Tattoos I own (see the other three colors and an in-depth review here). However I have been leaning toward this particular color. It's a great matte shadow base and primer that is perfect for fair-skinned people. Sadly, I haven't seen it in stores for a few months so this was most likely limited edition. I love the color tattoos because they are affordable, but if you really need a matte, skin-toned shadow base you can try MAC Paint Pot in Soft Ochre. It's definitely a pricier alternative, but I have heard great things about this product, too.

To apply this product, I place my ring finger into the pot and rub it in a circular motion for a few seconds. Picking up the product this way helps warm up the product and make it easier to apply to your eyelid. Then I apply this from my lash line to my brow bone, and go over it a few times to make sure it's blended easily.

I learned a super helpful tip when storing this product so it won't dry out: Store it with the black lid on the bottom. This makes it so the moisture in the product is where you are putting your finger when you use the product, and not at the bottom of the pot. SO HELPFUL! I wish I would have stored these like this all along...

Maybelline The Rocket Volumn' Express Waterproof Mascara in Very Black

_DSC1395Best. Drugstore. Mascara! I absolutely love this product. It doesn't flake or smear all over your face, it keeps your lashes curled and voluminous, it's clump free, and it's from the drugstore! My favorite mascara of all time is Tarte's Lights, Camera, Lashes!, but this by far my favorite drug store one. It's color is so dark and your lashes won't look like a spider if you apply two coats. I have used the regular formulation of this product, but the waterproof one keeps my stick-straight lashes curled all day long.

I apply this mascara in a pretty basic way... First I curl my lashes. Then I put the brush covered with product at the base of my top lashes and wiggle the brush as I go toward the end of the lash, and go over all of my lashes. Also, I use the left over product to apply a light coat on my lower lashes. If I feel like I didn't get enough va-voom on the first coat, I apply a second to my top lashes.

Wet n Wild ColorIcon Eyeliner in White

_DSC1400This last product is my 8 hours of sleep in a pencil. When you put this on your waterline, it makes you look awake and ready to take on the day. As I have praised over and over, Wet n Wild products are super pigmented and super affordable. If you've never tried a white eyeliner pencil, you should give this a try because you can get it for a few dollars (I think I paid $1.50) and it will last FOREVER.

To apply this, I pull my lower water-line away from my eyeball, and run the pencil over it a couple of times until the skin is lighter. That's it. It's even easier than how I apply mascara and it will make you look like you got a great night's sleep (even though you didn't).

What products are you loving this fall?

Lots of love!
